Today, we are faced with an ever changing and growing society that seems to be out of control. We have very little
compassion for fellow human beings and the law that governs us all, as crimes ranging from shop lifting to murder
are on the rise all over the world. It seems that people are more desperate and motivated than ever before to
commit these crimes – just to satisfy their everyday needs. Needs ranging from money to support and feed their
family to funds to satisfy their drug addictions. In some cases, their need to satisfy themselves causes great harm
and suffering to others. For the most part, most of the people you come in contact with on a daily basis are honest
hard working men and women just like yourself, who want nothing more than to go to work and provide for
themselves and or their families. Like you, they want to be safe and feel safe as they go about their daily activities.
This course is designed to protect against the other percentage of the population, who has no compassion for you,
or anyone else, for that matter. They are motivated and will do whatever it takes to accomplish the task they have
set out to complete.
Statistics show us crimes of varying degrees that take place at an alarming rate daily right here in the United States
alone. People are targeted for various reasons: Some are targeted because of their social and political views, or
because they have money and some are targeted because of their gender or how they look or believe. Statistics
prove that any one of us can become a victim, any time any place. The daily news is filled with reports of uninvited
assault, home invasion, domestic assault, and etc. You only need to watch the news or visit a news site on the
Internet and there you will find endless reports of these and other types of crimes. Just as I am completing this book
the top story on the local news involves a male subject who tries to abduct a female in front of police headquarters.
Luckily for her, the two police officers on the top floor of the parking garage heard her screaming, and acted quickly
to call in the situation. After giving a short chase, the subject was apprehended and arrested; however, the female
was unharmed.
There is no need for you or anyone to live life in fear. There is a great need however, for all of us to be prepared for
such incidents should we become a victim. This course will teach you to become aware of the various situations that
can (and do) happen on a daily basis, and how to avoid becoming a victim by becoming aware of your surroundings.
You will learn how to react to different situations and how to protect yourself should the need arise.
The one thing that separates this book from most self defense books is that it will teach you to act, rather than wait to
react when in a situation. To ACT implies ACTION, to REACT implies to DEFEND. Defense is a great philosophy;
however, I feel that once the attacker has invaded your safety zone and allowed to get their hands on you, they have
already won 80 percent of the attack. You now have a lot of ground to make up, especially if you are a 110 pound
woman and the attacker is a 200 pound man, determined to assault or rape you.
ACTING will almost certainly go against everything you have ever been taught when it comes to self defense. Most
all of your life you have more than likely been taught if you are hit, hit back. I want you to forget all of that and put
the thought of protection in your mind. You have a right to protect yourself and your family. If someone, uninvited,
invades your safety zone, you more than likely will be fearful that this person is about to harm you. Fear is all you
need in order to ACT for your personal protection. Do not wait for this person to get their hands on you - if they are
not invited in, the time to act is right then. Always remember that if you are attacking, the person being attacked
must (and will) defend. Fights are typically won by the person who is attacking and this is not a free pass for you to
attack anyone who enters your space – you must be fearful at the time and you must believe that this person is going
to hurt you.
All of the techniques in this book are easy to understand and duplicate; however, they must be practiced and
reviewed regularly in order to perfect them effectively.
Anyone practicing the techniques in this book does so at his or her own risk. The author of this training book, any
instructors authorized by the Ryu Toushi Academy Of Martial Arts assume no responsibility for the use or misuse of
information contained in this training book or any injuries that may occur as a result of practicing or using the
techniques contained herein this training book. The illustrations, techniques, and information contained in this book
are for illustrative, informational, and educational purposes only. It is imperative to practice these techniques under a
qualified instructor and to become proficient in the movements. The author of this book assumes no responsibility
for the use and or misuse of the information contained in this book.
The skills and techniques you will be learning and those of which are demonstrated by pictures on these pages are
very dangerous. Never strike your training partner with enough force to cause injury. Never use a real knife, other
sharp object or hand gun to practice these skills. Use of rubber, wooden or plastic training props should be used to
practice and review your skills. Practice as often as you can and each time, add speed and precision to your strike
locations, rather than using strength and force to strike your training partner. Repeated training will enable the
techniques to become second nature to you, should you need them to protect yourself. Again, this book is not
intended to be a substitution for training conducted by a certified trainer. There are endless attack scenarios and
situations; however, in this book, we have chosen to focus only on the most likely of those scenarios.
